Shakespeare’s tale of Valentine and Proteus, the gentlemen in question, and their romantic entanglements is a zany comic caper with some ‘60s music tossed in for more fun. One of the major free Shakespeare programs in the U.S., Free Shakespeare in the Park began in 1983 and is in its 28th season.

Showcasing the work of local filmmakers, the Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema series offers films, music and more. The opening night and preview party on Thursday, Sept. 2, includes a great night of 3-D film, shorts, classical music and a cappella singing. Films will be shown at multiple venues on Friday, Sept. 3 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. for the annual Film Crawl on Cortland. Saturday, it’s outdoor cinema from the hill in Bernal Heights Park, where Folsom Street meets Bernal Heights Boulevard. Seasoned viewers recommend blankets, cushions and low-backed chairs to have a comfortable view of the screen and city lights. The closing night, Sunday, Sept. 5, at Precita Park is part block party, part picnic, part street food buffet with Bernal Heights neighbors, friends and partners all gathered to celebrate the end of the cinema fest.

Le Concierge SF receives a number of calls from existing and prospective clients with a frequent question, "is it possible to keep my life and at the same time help our children be organizedkeys_325 at home and school?"  For most of our clients we have not only been able to physically organize homes, but we have also had the opportunity work with parents on how they can be effective  in helping their children be efficient with homework, healthy snacks, communication and more.  Le Concierge SF founder Silvia Oppenheim is certified in early child development and art therapy.  We have not only helped parents organize the room, but we have helped parents  understand how to better communicate with their children.   Now, a few tips to help you get ready for back-to-school:
 

Make a To-Do List

Write out simple checklists for every member of the family with the top five tasks that need to be completed during his or her morning routine (i.e. brush teeth, bring hair clips and brush to Mom, etc.). Hang this list on the bathroom doorknob (a central location, since everyone visits the bathroom daily)."

Organize Your Entryway

Create an area in your entryway (nearest the door you use most often) for everyday life accessories (keys, cell phone and charger, bills to be mailed, etc.). An over-the-door clear foyer_325 plastic shoe holder makes a perfect storage spot for these items. (Use lower pockets for small children so they can get their own belongings.)"

Get Ready the Night Before

Prepare what you can the evening before, i.e. set the table for breakfast, choose outfits to wear the next day and fill the coffee maker in the evening."

"Dedicate spots in your kitchen for activities such as a coffee/tea station where you have a few mugs, sugar, spoons and tea bags or a cereal station with cereal, spoons, bowls and napkins. No more opening and closing multiple cabinets to complete a single task."

Keep Track of Important Paperwork

Place one large clip per child on the front of the fridge. Have the children place important papers on the clip so that Mom can sign or review them. Once she’s done, she can put them back on the clip or right into the child’s backpack."

Don’t Let the Mail Pile Up mail-325

Develop a daily routine of bringing in the mail and standing over the shredder while you sort it. Shred the junk and place bills in the same location each time. Replace old catalogs with the new ones and recycle old magazines (read or unread) when the new one arrives

Plan Ahead for Meals

Whenever possible make breakfast ahead of time. Making pancakes on a Sunday? Make extra and freeze them for a busy morning."

  • Where else but in Las Vegas would a concierge desk have a guest request a bathtub full of goat’s milk (the hotel didn’t comply) and another call for a stuffed gorilla to surprise the guest’s beloved? 
     
  • One new mother was planning a business trip to Vegas and expressed dismay to her husband about leaving the couple’s infant. The concerned spouse phoned the concierge and asked the desk to print an e-mailed picture of the baby, have it framed and place it by the mom’s bedside, to surprise her. The mother was elated.
     
  • At the Hard Rock, where the hip and trendy gravitate, more bizarre requests have crossed the desk, including a request for Oompa Loompas at a party. Yes, they managed to find actors to do this. No, it wasn’t anything dirty.
     
  • Another strange and memorable request: One guy called and ordered a mariachi band to follow him around the casino all night while he gambled.

If you can imagine it,  concierges have probably heard it. Most hotels handle an average of 300 calls a day.   Here are some common tasks that concierges routinely perform. Note that some requests, such as charging a cellphone, may include a fee.

  • Arrange gifts.
  • Find a doctor.
  • Charge your cellphone.
  • Find a minister.
  • Arrange for a bodyguard.
  • Hire a limo.
  • Charter a private jet.
  • Reserve front-row seats at shows.
  • Repair shoes.
  • Find a tuxedo.
  • Arrange a tour.
  • Plan birthday parties.
  • Map out a hike.

Come for the day to cheer, walk a bit, listen to great live music, enter to win great ra…ffle prizes and have some yummy food, you will make a difference!  Our team name is H.A.T.S – Healing Achieved Through Smiles and we focus on Children Battling cancer.

I believe children should be counting candles, and not worrying about their blood cell count!  Also, if you know someone who won the battle, is fighting, or want to remember those who lost, we have a Luminaria ceremony where we light hundreds of candle lit Luminaries around the track to honor those we love. The suggested donation for that is only $10 and absolutely amazing! (you don’t have to be present for it. We can light is for you in the name of those you choose)
